When it comes to Aamir Khan’s filmography, one cannot miss Lagaan: Once Upon A Time In India, which turned 22 on June 15. In fact, a section of moviegoers was celebrating the milestone on Thursday. Aamir Khan as Bhuvan in the Ashutosh Gowariker directorial left everyone impressed. However, what if we tell you that not Aamir Khan but Abhishek Bachchan was the first choice?

According to a report by ETimes, Ashutosh claimed that he would frequently visit Abhishek’s house to convince him to play Bhuvan. However, the Junior Bachchan was adamant about his decision to not do the role. In his response, Abhishek told the portal that he felt he was a misfit for Lagaan.
“I was way too raw and young to shoulder a film as epic as Lagaan. Of course, I knew it was going to be huge. But I was just not ready to be part of it,” asserted Abhishek. Explaining further, “I am glad Aamir did Lagan. He brought so much magic and credibility to the project.”
Bachchan added, “Every film and role has its own destiny. Do you know how many actors were offered The Godfather before Marlon Brando? Why are we talking about this? It is embarrassing. I would rather talk about the films that I’ve done rather than the ones I haven’t done.”
For the unversed, Lagaan is about villagers competing against British officers in a game of cricket. Released in 2001, the Aamir Khan starrer also landed an Oscar nomination. To celebrate the success of the film, Aamir Khan’s production house shared a multiple-picture post featuring throwback photos from the sets of Lagaan.
