The classic love saga, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), completes 25 years today. The film starred Shah Rukh Khan as the cool Rahul, Kajol as the badass yet graceful Anjali and Rani Mukerji as the hot and sensible Tina. The actors played their parts with perfection and their performances are deeply etched in our minds. Hence, it was interesting to read Karan Johar’s response when he was asked about who he would cast if Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was remade today.

Karan Johar was asked this question by Bombay Times as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. At the very onset, he made it clear that it would be difficult to provide an answer to this rapid-fire question as Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji are irreplaceable. However, he did provide an answer hypothetically. He replied that Alia Bhatt would be apt in the role of Anjali while Janhvi Kapoor or Ananya Panday could fit into the role of Tina. As for Rahul, he said it would be tough but maybe Ranveer Singh would fit the bill.
To quote Karan Johar, “I think they are an irreplaceable cast, but if you put me in a hypothetical situation, then I would say Alia would be a great Anjali. Maybe, Janhvi (Kapoor) or Ananya (Panday) would be a great Tina. Rahul is tough… maybe Ranveer Singh.”
Another interesting rapid-fire question asked was his favourite scene from the film. Karan replied that it was the sequence where Rahul and Anjali meet after many years at the summer camp. Karan noted, “In that moment, they do their signature gesture also in a very uncomfortable way. They don’t know what to say and how to say it. It is the most beautifully uncomfortable moment that I have created on screen.”
