Kiran Rao’s latest film, Laapataa Ladies has been chosen to represent India at the 97th Academy Awards. The announcement was made by the Film Federation of India (FFI), which is the governing body for Indian cinema on Monday, September 23. The film garnered much love from audiences for its representation of rural India and along with the plotline, the performances and direction too received much appreciation from audience. Meanwhile, the entire team is ecstatic about the news and now, producer Aamir Khan and leading lady Pratibha Ranta have expressed their happiness and gratitude over bagging this honor.

Actor-producer Aamir Khan penned a note wherein he shared his pride over the team’s work and said, “We are all so happy with the news. I am so proud of Kiran and her entire team. I would like to thank the selection committee of the Film Federation of India, which chose our film to represent India at the Oscars. My heartfelt gratitude to our audience, our media, and the entire film fraternity, for all the love and support they have given Laapata Ladies. Thanks to both Jio and Netflix who have been great partners to work with. I am so happy that all our hard-work has paid off. Thank you everyone Here’s hoping that Laapata Ladies is able to win the hearts of the members of the Academy.”
Along with him, actress Pratibha Ranta also reacted to the news as she couldn’t contain her happiness and added, “I’m absolutely speechless at the thought that Laapataa Ladies could be chosen for the Oscars! My dream would truly be fulfilled if it happens. Being part of this film has been an amazing journey, and I can’t help but feel excited about the possibility of it receiving such prestigious recognition. As Jaya, I poured my heart into this role, and it means everything to me. This is my first movie, and the idea of being considered for the Oscars is just incredible! I trust that the selection process will highlight the best films, and no matter what, I am so grateful for this opportunity. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us!”
Earlier filmmaker Kiran Rao and actor Ravi Kishen too shared their reactions to the news wherein the latter also revealed that he was quite surprised to see the film surpass commercially successful films like Animal and Kalki 2898 AD as it went on to bag the honor of India’s official entry to Oscars.
