Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan, who is gearing up for his role as a cricket coach in the upcoming film Ghoomer, recently shared his thoughts on his mother Jaya Bachchan’s return to the silver screen with Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.

In an interview with India Today, Abhishek candidly expressed his views on his mother’s acting and his unique perspective as a son. Responding to the news that his mother’s performance was being lauded and her character was a highlight of discussions, Abhishek humorously remarked, “That’s good to hear! Go tell her in Parliament (laughs).” He then opened up about the experience of watching the film with her, revealing, “I watched it with her. For me, the only member of the family who I cannot view as an actor is my mother.”

Abhishek went on to explain that his emotional attachment and the special relationship he shares with his mother make it challenging for him to judge her performances. He shared, “My father and my wife, I have the ability to see them as an actor and performance but with my mother, it is too emotional. The relationship between a mother and a son, or any child and a parent, is just that. I always view her as my mother, so it is very difficult for me to judge her.”

As anticipation builds for Ghoomer, a sports drama directed by R Balki, Abhishek’s fans can expect to witness him in a never-before-seen avatar as a cricket coach. The film centres around the journey of a paraplegic woman, portrayed by Saiyami Kher, who emerges as a star bowler for the Indian cricket team under the guidance of her coach. Alongside Abhishek and Saiyami, the movie also stars Shabana Azmi and Angad Bedi in pivotal roles. Scheduled to release on August 18, Ghoomer is also set to be premiered at the Indian Film Festival in Melbourne.
