Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who was visibly emotional at his daughter Aaliyah Kashyap’s wedding to Shane Gregoire, shared that he felt overwhelmed by the event to the point of wanting to leave. He admitted to crying for days after watching his daughter walk down the aisle, a moment that left him deeply moved. In the wake of these emotions, Kashyap also decided to take a break from alcohol.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Anurag Kashyap revealed how deeply emotional he became during his daughter Aaliyah Kashyap’s wedding. He shared, “At my daughter’s wedding, after the varmala and havan was done, I couldn’t handle it. I was so overwhelmed and emotional, I wanted to leave the wedding, even before the reception began. And I was going out, but he stopped me. He took me out, we went for a long walk and then we came back.”
Aaliyah Kashyap and Shane Gregoire tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Mumbai, which was attended by several prominent Bollywood personalities. Guests at the wedding included actors Manoj Bajpayee, Sobhita Dhulipala, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, and more.
“I had the same feeling when my daughter was born. I don’t know why I cried so much, but I cried. Same thing at her wedding. I think I cried non-stop for 10 days. I don’t know why and in front of random people. Suddenly, I stopped drinking, I stopped crying, everything just stopped. I think this was a big catharsis for me, which went on for 10 days,” he further stated.
Anurag Kashyap recently ventured into acting with Aashiq Abu’s Malayalam film Rifle Club, where he portrayed the role of a father to renowned rapper Hanumankind. The film also features a stellar cast including Dileesh Pothan, Vani Viswanath, Vijayaraghavan, Vincy Aloshious, Ramzan Muhammed, Surabhi Lakshmi, and Unnimaya Prasad.
Anurag Kashyap’s latest directorial venture, Kennedy, was released in 2023, starring Sunny Leone. The film made waves internationally, premiering at prestigious events like the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, Sydney Film Festival, and Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival.
Anurag Kashyap, renowned for his films like Gulaal, Dev.D, and Gangs of Wasseypur, had previously stated that he would never cast himself in any project. However, in 2024, he surprised audiences with impactful roles in the web series Bad Cop and the Tamil action thriller Maharaja.
