The Bollywood Hungama OTT Fest, held on October 3, 2024, at Taj Lands End, Mumbai brought together leading figures from the entertainment world to examine the fast-paced evolution of India’s OTT platforms. Over the course of two days, celebrities engaged in thought-provoking discussions on the shifting dynamics of digital content creation. One of the last discussions involved Kritika Kamra, Sayani Gupta, Taaha Shah, Jim Sarbh and Adarsh Gourav and they spoke about the co-existence of OTT and theatrical titles.

Sayani Gupta took the cake at this event as she said, “I worked in a film called Margarita With A Straw (2015). Both Kalki Koechlin and I had to obviously work on the physicality for a long time. I didn’t have much time after I was cast. I only had a month of preparation while Kalki was in that chair for 6 months.” Kalki played a girl with cerebral palsy.
Sayani continued, “I played a visually impaired person and I didn’t want to apply lenses. So, I did something to my eye. The right eyeball would go to the left but the left eyeball would stay straight.” She clarified, “And it was not cockeye.”
She revealed that her performance came out so well that it surprised prominent people from the film industry at the screening of Margarita With A Straw. She said, “I am not dropping names but Mr Rajkumar Hirani refused to believe that I wasn’t blind or used a lens.”
Sayani Gupta then raised laughs saying, “But the funny part is that my eyes got used to doing that. Even outside when I would meet someone for dinner, in the middle of the conversation, my eye would become like that (like the way she worked on, in the film)! So it was strange how my body was reacting. This happened even with Kalki Koechlin; her hand would be in a certain way. It’s amazing what your body can do and how certain things become a part of the muscle memory.”
