Director Abhishek Saxena opens up on the vision behind Bandaa Singh Chaudhary: “I wanted to tell a story that wasn’t just about communal tensions”

Bandaa Singh Chaudhary tells the story of a common man and explores the rise of communal tensions in Punjab after the Indo-Pak war, when Pakistan’s ISI attempted to exploit local grievances and create discord between Hindu and Sikh communities. Amidst the violence, the film highlights the value system that has historically united India’s people. At its core, it is a story about the power of unity.

Director Abhishek Saxena said, “Bandaa Singh Chaudhary is not just a historical retelling; it’s a powerful story that reflects the innate sense of unity that’s inherent in the people of our country. In India, our diversity is our strength, and it’s something that has always fascinated and inspired me. We come from different backgrounds, religions, and communities, yet we all share common love for this nation. When I embarked on making this film, I wanted to tell a story that wasn’t just about communal tensions or the aftermath of the Indo-Pak war, but one that focused on the spirit of togetherness that rises above such conflicts.”

He further added, “The film reflects how, in the most challenging of times, unity is the only path forward. The characters in the film face immense adversity, but they also represent the strength of ordinary people who refuse to give in to hatred. Through the story of a common man named Banda, played by Arshad Warsi, we see how the power of unity whether between families, friends, or entire communities can lead to healing and reconciliation. I hope Bandaa Singh Chaudhary reminds people that despite our differences, we are stronger together.”
