EXCLUSIVE: Manoj Desai credits shortened runtime for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 outpacing Singham Again at the box office 3 : Bollywood News
Earlier this month during Diwali, the box office saw the clash of two biggies in the form of Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Both the movies performed well at the box office, especially in the first week. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Manoj Desai, the Executive Director of Mumbai’s G7 Multiplex and Maratha Mandir, looked back at the period when the two films clashed and shared his conversation with Rohit Shetty, the director of Singham Again, before the film’s release.

Speaking about the performance of the two films at G7, he said, “There was excitement for both the films. On the first four days, you won’t believe, and you can check, there were eight shows of Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and all 16 shows were houseful. Of course, the star cast of both the films was the reason behind this. The other reason was the lowest ticket rates in Maharashtra in our theatres. Because of that, there were hordes of people turning up.”
Coming to the clash, he said, “It was necessary for both the films to come together. If they hadn’t, one film would have made all 16 shows houseful. But both films coming together was also nice. However, it depends on each individual’s thinking about which film did better than the other. I would repeat a dialogue from Rajesh Khanna’s Dushman – ‘Yeh jo public hai yeh sab jaanti hai.’ The public knows everything. Both films have done well.”
Desai also made revelation by sharing his conversation with Shetty before the release. The filmmaker reduced the runtime of Singham Again considerably, much to the opposition of Desai, who believes that to be the reason behind Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 finishing ahead of Singham Again.
“That happened because Rohit ji shortened the film to two hours and 25 minutes,” said Desai. “I asked him why he is doing this. He said we need to compete with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. I said, ‘So what? It is okay to shorten it from two hours 50 minutes to two hours 40 minutes. But why are you reducing it to two hours 25 minutes? The flow will break, and the public understands all this.’ Ultimately, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 did a good job. And, of course, both the films did zabardast business in the first four days.”
