Filmmaker and producer Karan Johar had an emotional night at the IIFA 2024 ceremony in Abu Dhabi. The filmmaker, celebrating his 25-year journey in Bollywood, was visibly shocked when hosts Shah Rukh Khan and Vicky Kaushal invited him on stage to accept a special award. The honor recognized Johar’s contributions to Indian cinema and his influential work as the head of Dharma Productions.

A Tribute to Yash Johar

Following the event, Karan Johar expressed his gratitude on social media. In his post, he thanked the IIFA for recognizing his career achievements, and most importantly, dedicated the award to his late father, Yash Johar. He wrote, “Thank you @iifa for awarding me for my 25 years of making movies and living and realising my dreams…. I dedicate this honour to the memory of my beloved father …who paved the way for all us at @dharmamovies.” Johar’s heartfelt message reflected on the influence his father had in establishing Dharma Productions, a studio that has played a major role in shaping modern Hindi cinema.

Karan Johar’s Remarkable Journey

Karan Johar’s career in Bollywood began in 1998 with his directorial debut Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, a film that went on to achieve cult status. Over the years, he has delivered several iconic films including Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…, My Name Is Khan, Student of the Year, and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. His most recent directorial project, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, continued his tradition of delivering commercially successful and beloved films. Johar’s influence extends beyond direction, as he has also nurtured new talent and produced a wide range of films under the Dharma banner.

The 2024 edition of the IIFA Awards took place from September 27 to September 29 in Abu Dhabi. Among the notable wins were Animal for Best Film, Shah Rukh Khan for Best Actor for Jawan, and Rani Mukerji for Best Actress for Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway
