Actress Neena Gupta is set to portray the character of grandmother in R Balki’s Lust Stories 2. In a recent interview conducted to promote the Netflix anthology film, the actress discussed her reasons for accepting the role and how it sparked conversations about sexuality. Neena Gupta shared that during her upbringing, her mother never provided her with information about sex.

During a conversation with Indian Express, Neena Gupta was questioned about her decision to enthusiastically take on the role of “dadi ma” in Lust Stories 2. She replied, “Because if it was not dadi maa saying what I am saying then it would not have any impact. That is why it was important for a dadi maa to say these things which we have said in the film.” She further added, “We didn’t know anything about sex. My mother never told me about what is sex, she never told me what are periods. When I was in college, my mother used to be so strict that she would not even let me go to watch a movie with my girlfriends.”
She further mentioned that during her college years, she held the belief that kissing alone had the potential to result in pregnancy among women. “In the earlier times, the girl was given some information before she got married. They were told what would happen on the first night, so that she isn’t scared or the guy doesn’t run away. However, even then, women were told it was their job to deliver children and how they need to fulfil their ‘duty’ when their husband asks for sex,” said the actress.
The first film in the franchise released in 2018. Lust Stories 2 has four stories directed by Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee and Anurag Kashyap. It has a long list of cast that includes Kajol, Tamannaah Bhatia, Vijay Varma, Neena Gupta, Kumud Mishra, Tillotama Shome, Mrunal Thakur, Amruta Subhash and Angad Bedi.
Lust Stories 2 will stream on Netflix from June 29.
