Actress Priyamani recently starred in the film Article 370 alongside Yami Gautam. The film, which explores the abrogation of Article 370, sparked some debate, with some labelling it as “propaganda.” In an interview with News18 Showsha, Priyamani addressed these criticisms, sharing her perspective on the film’s purpose.

“When we took on this film or when we decided that we wanted to be a part of this film, I think the main reason was that we wanted to tell people, ‘Listen there’s something like this which has gone down in history and not many people know about it,'” the Jawan actress explained.

Priyamani acknowledges that some viewers interpret the film as “raising awareness” while others perceive it as “absolutely propaganda.” However, she shed light on the primary aim, which was to educate audiences about a significant historical event. “I’m sure people knew about it but they didn’t know what people went through, what steps were taken to see to it that this mission was a success,” the 39-year-old actress added.

She further clarifies that the film is grounded in reality, avoiding unnecessary dramatisation. “The film didn’t take any cinematic liberty, which is a very common usage in cinema. Whatever has been shown is based on real incidents. Some people may have good things to say about it, some may not like it, but our mission is to create this awareness amongst people,” she concluded.

Speaking of the film, Article 370 is directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale and jointly produced by Aditya Dhar, Lokesh Dhar and Jyoti Deshpande. Besides Priyamani and Yami, the film also stars Arun Govil, Kiran Karmarkar and many others. It was released on February 23, 2024. The political drama received a positive response and is currently running in theaters.
