Rakul Preet Singh recently candidly discussed her early struggles, including being replaced in two high-profile films, one of which starred the late Sushant Singh Rajput. Despite facing setbacks early in her career, Rakul remained optimistic and focused on her goals. She recalled being dropped from a Telugu film with Prabhas just four days into shooting. Despite the unexpected turn of events, Rakul approached the situation with a positive outlook, believing that it was not meant to be.

In a recent interview on The Ranveer Show podcast, Rakul Preet Singh revealed, “I was replaced from a film after shooting for four days, before I made my debut. This was a Telugu film with Prabhas. But sometimes, when you don’t know much about the industry or its way of functioning, you don’t take it to your heart. There is a beauty in innocence and naivety. I was so naive, I thought, ‘Oh, ok they have removed me? No problem, maybe this wasn’t meant for me, I will do something else.’ Because I was not corrupted. When people start surrounding you, they tell you that this happened because of that, it poisons you. But I had no one around me. When you are so naive, it helps.”
The actor attributed her resilience to her lack of experience in the industry. Her naivety shielded her from negative influences, allowing her to maintain a positive perspective. The producer’s decision to replace Rakul in the film was based on the realization that an established actor would be a better fit for the role. Although disappointed, Rakul accepted the decision and continued to pursue her acting career. She said, “I wasn’t even informed; I had gone to Delhi after wrapping my schedule and learnt about this later. Then that happened again, but I had just signed the film, not begun shooting when I was replaced. Now, when this happened with two big films, a perception starts to form, rumours start to surface where people wonder if you are getting replaced because you have an attitude problem or don’t know acting. I knew I wouldn’t get that first big launch, I had to work my way around. And then, my debut was a small film which became a big hit.”
Rakul also revealed that she had initially been cast in the biopic of MS Dhoni, starring Sushant Singh Rajput. However, due to scheduling conflicts with other projects, she had to withdraw from the film. The role eventually went to Disha Patani. “It was the role which eventually Disha Patani played. I had done the costume and script reading, but then their dates shifted by a month, and I was shooting films with Ram Charan and Jr NTR. Bruce Lee: The Fighter was about to release in a month and two songs were yet to be shot. So, I couldn’t adjust the dates at all, and I cried that I missed out on such a good film,” she added.
On the work front, Rakul Preet Singh will next star in De De Pyaar De 2 with Ajay Devgn.
