Sham Kaushal highlighted the importance of education for his sons, enrolling them in “normal schools” to teach discipline and hard work. Although initially surprised by their desire to enter the film industry, he felt he couldn’t deny them the chance, given his own career in cinema. He shared, “I couldn’t say no because I was earning from the same industry. I thought someone might offer them tea out of respect for me, but nobody would invest crores in a film with them. However, since I also came from a village and worked hard, I believed that if they stayed honest and put in effort, they would not be denied.”
Sham clarified that while he supported his sons as a father, he never leveraged his position to advance their careers professionally. “As an action director, I never approached anyone to give them work,” he stated.
Sham recalled how Vicky sometimes faced dismissive treatment during auditions, with people saying, “Vicky ka kya audition lena.” Despite this, Sham encouraged his sons to use any insult as motivation, telling them, “Until you experience humiliation, you won’t truly grow. Make that insult your strength.” Vicky’s persistence paid off as he worked hard for several years before securing a breakthrough role.
Recalling Vicky’s initial hesitance to accept a small role early in his career, Sham shared, “Vicky told me he got 3-4 scenes in Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana and many people were telling him not to do that small role, but I always believe beggars can’t be choosers and I told him to listen to his heart. He later called me and said that ‘I keep looking for work and they are giving me work so I want to do it.’ I stood by his decision.”
Vicky Kaushal made his Bollywood debut as an assistant director for a 2012 film and has since made a significant mark in the industry. He will soon share screen space with Rashmika Mandanna in the historical drama Chhava. Vicky will portray Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, while Rashmika will play the role of Yesubai Bhonsale. As fans eagerly await the film’s release, Vicky recently announced that he has wrapped up shooting for the project.
Chhava also stars Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, and Divya Dutta in pivotal roles. According to a report by Pinkvilla, actor Neil Bhoopalam has been cast as a Mughal prince in the film. This marks the second collaboration between Vicky Kaushal and director Laxman Utekar, following Zara Hatke Zara Bachke.
Beyond Chhava, Vicky Kaushal has an exciting slate of upcoming projects. Vicky is set to star in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lahore 1947, which features Sunny Deol. Additionally, he has Karan Johar’s untitled project opposite Tripti Dimri and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.
