Terence Lewis reveals why Saroj Khan was abuse or behave so rudely; says, “The ruthlessness of the industry kills the women in them”

In a conversation with Bharti Singh and Harsh Limbachiya on their podcast Bharti TV Clips, Terence explained, “People who questioned, ‘Why does she abuse or behave so rudely’, they need to know it is extremely difficult for women to work in this industry where it is dominated with men. They have to be rough and strong. The ruthlessness of the industry kills the women in them. They have to turn into men to survive in the industry.”

He further explained, “I don’t know if you have noticed, the male choreographers are comparatively calmer than the female choreographers. They are more abusive than the men… And I will tell you why, it is because they have to prove it time and again that ‘Hey, don’t take me lightly, I will whack you otherwise’.”

Terence added, “We men don’t have to do it as much; but as a woman, you have to, in this male-dominated industry. It’s a sad thing. People have killed the women in them. This is why they even behave, walk and talk like men.”

Saroj Khan’s remarkable legacy in Bollywood includes choreographing over 2,000 songs, many of which became iconic hits like Hawa Hawai, Ek Do Teen, and Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai. Her life story, however, could rival a movie in itself. Born on November 22, 1948, in Bombay State to a Hindu family, she was originally named Nirmala Nagpal. Before entering the film industry, her parents changed her name to Saroj to keep her profession a secret from their conservative family.

At the age of 13, Saroj Khan married dance guru B. Sohanlal, who was 43 at the time. She gave birth to their first child when she was just 14. Afterward, Saroj discovered that Sohanlal was already married and had four children. Later, she married businessman Sardar Roshan Khan, converting to Islam for their union.
