Web Series Review: MISMATCHED: SEASON 3 works due to the relatability factor but faces some issues with the writing
Director: N/A
Synopsis:
MISMATCHED: SEASON 3 is the story of two love birds amid virtual and real chaos. Three years after the events of the second season, Rishi Singh Shekhawat (Rohit Saraf) gets admission in the Nandini Nahata Institute of Technology (NNIT), Hyderabad. Dimple Ahuja (Prajakta Koli) is still shattered that her idol Nandini Nahata (Dipannita Sharma Atwal) rejected her. Rohit and Dimple are having a long-distance relationship; the former keeps persuading the latter to meet him in Hyderabad or move in with him. But Dimple rejects the idea. Siddharth Sinha aka Sid sir (Rannvijay Singha) gets an offer from Adapt University to start a tech university. Sid accepts the offer and establishes the LLIT aka Lady Lovelace Institute of Technology. NNIT also happens to be in Adapt campus and LLIT is given the place next to Nandini’s institute. Sid goes to insane lengths to convince Dimple to secure an admission in his institute. Dimple relents and she flies to Hyderabad. There, she’s surprised to see that Rishi and Anmol Malhotra (Taaruk Raina) have become buddies. Anmol and Krish Katyal (Abhinav Sharma) are still not on good terms. But Krish and Celina Matthews (Muskkaan Jaferi) are having a fling. Celina, meanwhile, gets intrigued by a student at LLIT, Rithika (Lauren Robinson), who identifies as Rith. Meanwhile, though Rishi and Dimple are finally together, things are not going fine. Dimple complains that Rishi is unavailable for her despite being physically around. She is also jealous that he’s living the life that she always wanted. Meanwhile, Rishi in love compromises on the highly awaited app which will be launched by NNIT, leading to problems. What happens next forms the rest of the series.
Mismatched: Season 3 Story Review:
MISMATCHED: SEASON 3 is based on the novel ‘When Dimple Met Rishi’ by Sandhya Menon. Gazal Dhaliwal, Aarsh Vora, Sunayana Kumari, Nandini Gupta and Akshay Jhunjhunwala’s story is relatable and has enough drama. Gazal Dhaliwal and Sunayana Kumari’s screenplay is breezy, as has been the hallmark of this show. However, the writing has a few rough edges. Gazal Dhaliwal and Sunayana Kumari’s dialogues are conversational.
The direction is simple. One of the biggest strengths of the show is that its straight out of life and youngsters can see themselves in the various characters. This time, the protagonists have matured and moreover, they also face problems like long distance relationship woes, not finding time for each other, loss of a loved one, marriage pressure, etc. Moreover, the tech and VR aspects add to the fun and madness. The last episode has a nail-biting sequence and its worth watching. The series ends on a justified note with the promise of another season.
On the flipside, some issues of the previous season are present in Season 3 as well. Yet again, the characters act impulsively and break up or patch up in no time. It is not convincing and is often added forcefully to take the story forward. The track of Rith adds a nice touch but his intention to break into the Betterverse is very silly, especially when the portal was about to be launched soon. The writers should have thought of a better reason. The track of Anuradha (Garima Yajnik) and Aalif Ansari (Akshat Singh) is needless and forced into the narrative. Lastly, the adorable character of grandmother (Suhasini Mulay) mysteriously disappears. Even Kritika Bharadwaj (Suimran) will be missed as her character was memorable.
Mismatched: Season 3 Performances:
Rohit Saraf looks super dashing and his performance is effortless. Prajakta Koli too puts her best foot forward and excels in the challenging scenes. Their chemistry is lovely. Rannvijay Singha and Vidya Malvade (Zeenat Karim) are dependable though their track has limited impact this season. Dipannita Sharma Atwal leaves a huge mark. Taaruk Raina plays a difficult part with panache. Abhinav Sharma continues with his fine work. Muskkaan Jaferi is superb, and her mere presence lifts many scenes. Lauren Robinson delivers a great performance but is let down by the writing. Ahsaas Channa (Vinny) has a longer role this time and is impressive. Vihaan Samat (Harsh Agarwal) is lovely in a cameo. Garima Yajnik and Akshat Singh are okay. Jatin Sial (Dheeraj Ahuja; Dimple’s father), Kshitee Jog (Simple Ahuja; Dimple’s mother) and Jugal Hansraj (Janmajay Singh Shekhawat) do very well. Aditi Govitrikar (Kalpana) is wasted. Sushant Digvikr is sizzling.
Mismatched: Season 3 music and other technical aspects:
Songs are okay but have the potential to become big on Reels. ‘Ishq Hai Yeh’ and ‘Leja Mainu’ stand out. Anurag Saikia’s background score has a youthful and urban appeal.
Sudip Sengupta’s cinematography is appropriate. Latha Naidu’s production design is classy and the same applies to Ayesha Khanna’s costumes. The VFX is appealing, especially in the Betterverse scenes. Yasha Jaidev Ramchandani’s editing is functional.
Mismatched: Season 3 Conclusion:
On the whole, MISMATCHED: SEASON 3 faces some issues in terms of writing but works due to the relatability factor and the electrifying chemistry between Rohit Saraf and Prajakta Koli.
